Tote Bag of the Month – December 2011

December 15th, 2011

Each month Tote Talk will post a favorite bag choice and some background information about it. This month’s winner is: Puinsai Clothing Co.

Being a brand from Hawaii, PUINSAI Clothing Co. has adopted the responsibility to “Spread the Aloha” around the world. If you are unfamiliar with the meaning of “aloha,” Pilahi Paki, a time honored figure of Hawaii’s past, best described it. She wrote, “Aloha is the coordination of mind and heart . . . it’s within the individual. It brings you down to yourself. You must think and emote good feelings to others.”

PUINSAI Clothing Company’s tagline is “Spread the Aloha” and this is exactly what the company intends to do. Join them in recognizing each item in their line as the embodiment of “Aloha.”

Are you “Textbooks-2-Go” savvy?

October 20th, 2011

400 bags packed and ready to go!

One very successful program many of our school and college customers utilize Enviro-Tote bags for is a Textbooks-2-Go event. When students register early for classes a reusable tote bag is filled with the books they will need for their upcoming curriculum. On registration day the students can pick up their materials pre-packed in their very own canvas tote and be on their way.

Recently Berkshire School held an event like this and sent us a photo of the bags ready to go. They used 400 Custom-sized bags with their school seal to pre-pack the textbooks for their students. Enviro-Tote bags are also very strong and made to last. The handles are triple stitched and the bags are never thrown away but reused over and over again- making them a useful promotional item with a very small carbon footprint.

Tote Bag of the Month – September 2011

Wartburg College Bottle Bag™ 01Wartburg College Student Loves her Tote Bag

Each month Tote Talk will post a favorite bag choice and some background information about it. This month’s winner is: Wartburg State University

“Our bags were purchased as a result of a survey conducted by our student senate on sustainability. Students indicated through the survey that they would participate more in recycling if they had a container to carry the items from their rooms to the recycling stations outside the halls.

We decided as a team a bag would be easier for staff to manage, could be laundered and was less likely to be used for garbage, not to mention lower priced. Our Student Senate was willing to pay for the project, so they were the decision makers for the final product. Our sustainability department asked Senate to consider the Enviro-Tote bags because they were made in the USA of recycled materials; it seemed like a full circle. They were thrilled with the idea and on board from the beginning.

The Enviro-Tote staff are great to work with and the bags are a great quality. The design staff was wonderfully patient with us amateur designers and helped us format our design to be ready to print. We received rapid response to questions and had great service all the way through the process, even after we signed the contract.

When the bags were delivered to our College we were thrilled, they looked amazing. Unfortunately we now had to hand out over 500 bags and due to other circumstances we lost our labor pool and students were already starting to move back in. Thankfully our student orientation staff chose to help. 32 students arrived on campus early to train to orient the first year students and part of their training included a service project as a team building experience. With their support we stormed the residence halls and finished the job in 3 1/2 hours leaving a hook and bag in every room on campus. Without their support this would have cost our college over $1,200 in labor and taken over a week.

Our students have been happy with the bags and appreciate the effort the college is making to be more sustainable. They have even noticed that the bags are recycled which seems to get some students thinking about seeing recycled items for other parts of their life.”

Tote Bag of the Month – July 2011

July 7th, 2011

Each month Tote Talk will post a favorite bag choice and some background information about it. This month’s winner is: 2 Lucky Lads

Liam (age 10) and Declan (age 8) Miller are American boys currently living in Tokyo, Japan because their father works at the US Embassy in Tokyo. The Miller family moved to Japan in August 2010 from New Delhi, India. The boys have lived and traveled in many different countries and have come to understand how lucky we are to be Americans. They started a small charity called “2 Lucky Lads” in January 2011 and began planning their tote bag project. They decided to use their original poetry for the bag design. Unfortunately, in March of this year, a 9.0 earthquake, a tsunami, and a nuclear emergency hit Japan. The boys were evacuated from Tokyo for a month but returned to Japan ready to help. The boys decided to focus their fundraising on the needs of Japanese kids in the north who were affected by the tsunami’s devastation. 100% of money raised will be donated to Save the Children – Japan.

“Liam and Declan hope to sell bags outside of Japan in the near future. If you’d like to help Japan now, please consider donating to Save the Children-Japan or the International Red Cross.”
